Sporting Lagos produced one of the biggest results of the early 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign after coming from two goals down to defeat Enyimba 3-2 in Aba.
Enyimba appeared to be in control after taking a 2-0 lead in front of their home supporters, but Sporting Lagos mounted a remarkable comeback to turn the match around.
The victory further highlighted the unpredictable nature of the opening stages of the NPFL season, while Enyimba were left to reflect on another disappointing result.
The nine-time Nigerian champions had already suffered a difficult start to the campaign, and the latest defeat adds further pressure around the team as the season progresses.
For Sporting Lagos, however, the comeback represents an important result away from home and another indication of their ability to compete against established NPFL opposition.
The match was one of several fixtures played during Matchday 5, with results across the division continuing to shape the early league standings.
The NPFL’s official results list also records victories for Rangers International, Bendel Insurance, Kwara United, Barau FC and Shooting Stars during the round, while several other fixtures ended in draws.
Sporting Lagos will now look to build on the victory, while Enyimba will have to regroup quickly ahead of their next league assignment.
SMoR Sports Analysis: The result is another reminder that early-season momentum can change quickly in the NPFL, with established clubs facing increasingly competitive challenges from emerging sides.
