Enyimba’s difficult start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season has deepened after the nine-time champions suffered a third consecutive defeat, followed by a reported disruption to their training session.
Enyimba were beaten 1–0 by Inter Lagos at the Enyimba Stadium, with Ezekiel Moses scoring the only goal in the 18th minute. The victory was Inter Lagos’ first in the NPFL.
The defeat leaves Enyimba without a point from their opening three matches of the campaign, placing further pressure on the Aba club amid continuing issues both on and off the pitch.
The situation reportedly escalated when Enyimba returned to training on Monday. According to The PUNCH, Sporting Director Daniel Eke, accompanied by officers of the Abia State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad, arrived at the training venue and the session was disrupted. Some club officials were reportedly taken to the RRS office, while Chairman Nwankwo Kanu was filmed leading players to the police office.
The latest incident comes amid an ongoing power struggle at the club involving the sporting and technical structures. The dispute has previously involved competing appointments to key positions within the club.
Enyimba now face the immediate challenge of stabilising the club and turning around their league campaign. They are scheduled to host Sporting Lagos on Wednesday, with their first points of the season still to be secured.
