Nigeria opened their campaign in the Nigeria Cricket Federation Quadrangular T20 Series with a double victory on Monday, as Nigeria A defeated Sierra Leone before the senior national team overcame Ghana in Lagos.
Nigeria A began the day with a 33-run victory over Sierra Leone at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval. After being sent in to bat, Nigeria A posted 113/8 in 20 overs, with Olayinka Olaleye top-scoring with 25 runs and Mohammed Taiwo contributing an unbeaten 28.
Sierra Leone struggled during their chase and were bowled out for 80 in 19.5 overs. Elochukwu Ndubudem and Mustapha Yussuf claimed three wickets apiece, with Ndubudem named Player of the Match.
The senior Nigeria side, the Yellow Greens, followed that performance with an impressive eight-wicket victory over Ghana. Ghana made 91/9 from their 20 overs, with Judah Solomon scoring 35. Nigeria then reached 95/2 in just 13 overs to complete the chase.
Isaac Danladi led Nigeria’s successful chase with an unbeaten 52 from 41 balls, while Miracle Akhigbe finished unbeaten on 19 and also claimed two wickets for 14 runs.
The two Nigerian teams are scheduled to meet in the second game of Tuesday’s double-header at the TBS Cricket Oval, providing another opportunity for players from both squads to compete as the series continues.
