Basketball

In basketball, two teams, usually consisting of five players each, compete against each other on a rectangular court. The main goal is to shoot a basketball, which is about 9.4 inches (24 cm) in diameter, through the defender’s hoop, which is a basket that is 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and is mounted 10 feet (3.048 m) high to a backboard at each end of the court. The other team’s goal is to stop them from shooting through their own hoop. Until it is made from behind the three-point line, a field goal is for two points; otherwise, it is worth three. Following a foul, the player who was fouled or assigned to shoot a technical foul is awarded one, two, or three one-point free throws, and timed play ends.
