Nigeria’s Flamingos Qualify for 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup After Beating Benin in Thrilling Playoff

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have once again confirmed their status as one of Africa’s youth football powerhouses after defeating Benin Republic 5-3 in the second leg of their final qualifying tie at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Togo.
The impressive victory sealed an 8-5 aggregate triumph, earning Nigeria one of Africa’s qualification spots for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, 2026.

Flamingos Finish the Job in Style

Having taken a slender 3-2 advantage from the first leg in Ikenne, the Flamingos knew they needed another disciplined performance against a determined Benin side.
Instead of defending their lead, Nigeria produced an attacking masterclass, scoring five goals in an entertaining encounter that showcased the team’s pace, technical quality and fighting spirit.
The 5-3 win ensured the Flamingos completed the qualification campaign with an 8-5 aggregate victory, once again booking their place on the world stage.

Another World Cup for Nigeria

Qualification for Morocco 2026 continues Nigeria’s remarkable tradition in women’s youth football.
The Flamingos have become regular participants at FIFA youth tournaments and will be aiming to improve on their previous performances when they compete against the world’s best young teams later this year.
The qualification also reflects the continued investment in women’s football development by the Nigeria Football Federation and the coaching staff, who have nurtured another talented generation capable of competing at the highest level.

Morocco Awaits
The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will feature 24 teams, with Morocco hosting the tournament for the second consecutive year under FIFA’s new multi-year hosting arrangement.
Nigeria will join the continent’s best youth teams in representing Africa on the global stage, carrying the hopes of millions of football fans across the country.

At SMoR Sports, we congratulate the Flamingos, their coaching crew and the Nigeria Football Federation on this outstanding achievement.
The team’s resilience, attacking football and determination throughout the qualifiers have once again demonstrated why Nigeria remains one of Africa’s leading nations in women’s football.
As preparations begin for Morocco 2026, Nigerian fans will be hoping the Flamingos can produce another memorable World Cup campaign and challenge for the title.

Congratulations, Flamingos—Morocco awaits! 🇳🇬⚽
