Ghana’s Black Maidens are heading to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after defeating Senegal 7-6 on penalties following a 2-2 aggregate draw in the final round of the African qualifiers.

The Black Maidens held Senegal to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Dakar before another thrilling 1-1 draw in the return leg at the Accra Sports Stadium. With neither side able to find a winner over two legs, the tie was decided from the penalty spot, where Ghana held their nerve to book a place at the global showpiece.

Dramatic Qualification in Accra

The decisive second leg lived up to expectations as Senegal took the lead midway through the first half, putting the visitors on course for qualification.
However, Ghana captain Seidatu Wahab responded before halftime with a crucial equaliser that restored parity on aggregate and energized the home supporters.
Neither side could find a winning goal after the break, sending the contest into a nerve-racking penalty shootout. The Black Maidens converted seven of their spot-kicks to emerge 7-6 winners, sparking jubilant celebrations in Accra.

Reward for an Outstanding Qualification Campaign

Ghana’s qualification is the culmination of an impressive qualifying campaign.
The Black Maidens began by overwhelming Togo 8-0 on aggregate, before dispatching Liberia by the same scoreline to reach the final qualifying round against Senegal.
