NFF Unveils New Coaches for Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as the new head coaches of the Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets respectively.

The announcement comes as part of a wider restructuring of the technical departments across Nigeria’s age-grade national teams.

In a statement released on Thursday, the football body said:

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has endorsed the recommendation of the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee for the appointments of Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as head coaches of the U20 and U17 Boys National Teams.”

Maikaba Returns to National Team Setup

Abdu Maikaba will now take charge of Nigeria’s U-20 side, the Flying Eagles, bringing with him years of coaching experience in the Nigerian football league.

The veteran coach has previously handled several top clubs including Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Plateau United, Wikki Tourists, and Akwa United.

Maikaba also has experience with Nigeria’s youth national teams, having worked with the Golden Eaglets in the past and serving as assistant coach of the Flying Eagles during Paul Aigbogun’s era.

One of the biggest achievements of his managerial career came in 2017 when he led Akwa United to win the Federation Cup, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious football trophies.

Uwejamomere Takes Over Golden Eaglets

Eboboritse Uwejamomere has been named head coach of the Golden Eaglets, Nigeria’s U-17 national team and five-time FIFA U-17 World Cup champions.

The tactician is widely recognized for his work as a coach-analyst with the Super Eagles and has also contributed to the Super Falcons setup.

Currently serving as Head of Academy at Sporting Lagos FC, Uwejamomere played a key role in the club’s return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

He also gained valuable experience abroad, working as a youth development coach with English clubs such as Millwall FC, Gillingham FC, and Nottingham Forest FC.

Before this appointment, he managed Abeokuta-based Stormers FC and reportedly edged out other candidates, including Olumide Ajibolade and Shola Adegun, for the Golden Eaglets role.

Focus Shifts to U-23 Eagles Job

With the reshuffling of Nigeria’s age-grade national teams almost complete, attention has now shifted to the vacant U-23 national team coaching position.

Reports indicate that former Super Eagles stars Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi are among the leading contenders for the role ahead of preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers in Los Angeles.

The NFF is expected to make a final decision on the U-23 coaching appointment soon.
