Abuja 2027: NSC Inaugurates 28-Member LOC to Deliver Historic African Youth Games.

Nigeria Steps Up Preparations for 2027 African Youth Games in Abuja

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has officially inaugurated a 28-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) as preparations intensify for the second edition of the African Youth Games scheduled to take place in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, in 2027.

The committee was inaugurated by the Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, who charged members with the responsibility of delivering what he described as the best African Youth Games ever hosted on the continent.

NSC Assures Africa of Nigeria’s Readiness

Mallam Shehu Dikko reaffirmed the Federal Government’s full commitment to hosting a world-class sporting event, assuring the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and other African stakeholders that Abuja 2027 will meet international standards.

He emphasized the importance of planning, coordination, transparency, and teamwork in achieving a successful tournament.

“I congratulate all the LOC members on their appointments. You have been entrusted with a serious national assignment. Abuja 2027 will be safe, well organised, and memorable for our young athletes across Africa,” Dikko stated.

Abuja 2027 Aligns with RHINSE Sports Economy Agenda

Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, highlighted that hosting the African Youth Games aligns with the Commission’s RHINSE (Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria Sports Economy) agenda, which focuses on revitalising Nigerian sports and positioning the country as a continental hub for major international competitions.

According to Olopade, Abuja 2027 will boost Nigeria’s sports economy, enhance socio-cultural exchange, and strengthen the country’s global sporting reputation.

“We are repositioning Nigerian sports to reclaim its rightful place in Africa and the world, making Nigeria a viable destination for hosting major international sporting events,” he said.

LOC Chairman Lekan Abari Promises Transparency and Excellence

Chairman of the newly inaugurated LOC, Lekan Abari, commended the leadership of the NSC for the ongoing renaissance in Nigerian sports. He assured stakeholders that the committee will work diligently, transparently, and professionally to ensure a successful African Youth Games in Abuja.
