In their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, Warriors of Zimbabwe head coach Michael Nees has stated that no decisions have been made.
The Warriors have only two points from four games, which puts them last in Group C of the qualifiers.
They must now make a change when they welcome Benin at Moses Mabhida in Durban on March 20. Five days later, they will go to Nigeria to play the Super Eagles in Uyo from there.
On herald.co.zw, Nees was cited as saying, “It’s a very tight group; there are still six games to go and 18 points to play for.”
“The top-seeded team can easily lose because the group for any team has not yet been determined.
“We must take action. There is little doubt that the group has not yet been decided. Even after the group has been determined, it is still the duty of each side to give it their all in the final game in order to guarantee fair competition. The major project is now underway. The second initiative is similar to AFCON preparations already underway, except it’s the World Cup qualifier.
“We need to start the World Cup qualifying process off on a good note. We wish to do that in order to create a positive atmosphere and to make every effort to turn the tide slightly, flip the page, and move on.
“That’s our strategy, and we now need to consider the next task at hand.”
“A challenging matchup with Benin is the next task at hand. Nigeria was defeated by Benin. Nigeria and Benin played to a tie. Benin made it to the AFCON. Additionally, they have a highly skilled coach named Gernot Rohr, who is from my nation and whom I have known for thirty years.
You could say we are close friends. However, friendship won’t matter for these ninety-plus minutes,” Nees continued.
On Wednesday, March 12, Nees will announce his team for the two qualifiers.
