NIS DG Issue Queries to Some Principal Officers, Staff Over Absence from Compulsory Keep-Fit Exercises

The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has issued queries some Principal Officers and members of staff of the Institute over their failure to participate in the compulsory Tuesday and Thursday keep-fit/aerobics exercises.

The exercise, which forms part of Management’s initiative to promote healthy living, physical fitness and staff wellbeing, is compulsory for all members of staff of the Institute.

The queries issued by the DG followed observations of non-participation by some officers during the scheduled exercise sessions. The development underscores Management’s position that participation in the programme is not optional and applies equally to all staff, irrespective of rank or position.

Speaking on the initiative, Management emphasises that the keep-fit programme is designed not only to encourage physical fitness but also to promote a healthier and more productive workforce. As an institution at the centre of sports education and development in Nigeria, the NIS is expected to lead by example in promoting the values of physical activity and healthy living.

The directive also reflects the DG’s broader reform agenda, which places emphasis on discipline, accountability, staff welfare and institutional productivity. The initiative is aimed at fostering a healthier work environment while encouraging staff to embrace physical activity as part of their daily lifestyle.

Management has therefore reiterated that all staff are expected to participate in the Tuesday and Thursday keep-fit/aerobics sessions, except where there are legitimate and duly communicated reasons for absence.

The NIS Management further encouraged all members of staff to take the exercise seriously, noting that a healthy workforce is essential to building a more efficient, disciplined and productive institution.
