Inter Lagos made history on Sunday with a stunning 1–0 victory over nine-time Nigerian champions Enyimba at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, securing their first-ever win in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The newly promoted Lagos side produced a disciplined performance to silence the home crowd, with Ezekiel Moses scoring the decisive goal in the 18th minute. Moses rose to meet a well-delivered cross and powered his header beyond the Enyimba goalkeeper to give Inter Lagos an early advantage.
Enyimba attempted to fight their way back into the contest after the break. Head coach and technical adviser Emmanuel Deutsch made three substitutions as the Aba giants searched for an equaliser.
The hosts increased the pressure during the final stages and came close when Johna James found Ifeanyi Ihemekwele with a through ball, but Ihemekwele’s low effort struck the crossbar. Inter Lagos held firm to secure a memorable away victory.
Historic Moment for Inter Lagos
The victory represents a major milestone for Inter Lagos in their debut NPFL campaign. The club had lost their opening three matches, including defeats to Shooting Stars, Doma United and Sporting Lagos, before finally breaking their duck against one of Nigerian football’s most decorated clubs.
For Enyimba, however, the result compounds a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign. The nine-time champions have now suffered three defeats from their matches played so far and remain without a point.
What Next for Enyimba?
Enyimba will have an immediate opportunity to respond when they face Sporting Lagos in Aba in their next league assignment on September 23.
For Inter Lagos, the historic victory could provide an important confidence boost as the newcomers continue their first season in Nigeria’s top flight.
