Inter Lagos FC Secure Historic Promotion to NPFL After Dramatic Draw

Inter Lagos FC have officially earned promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), marking a major milestone for the fast-rising Lagos-based club and boosting the presence of teams from Nigeria’s commercial capital in the top flight.

The club confirmed their promotion on Monday following a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Smart City FC at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena. The same venue currently serves as home ground for Ikorodu City FC, another NPFL side.

Inter Lagos Top Conference A Table

The crucial point earned in the encounter ensured that Inter Lagos finished top of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference A standings. They amassed an impressive 29 points from 15 matches, sealing promotion with one game left in the regular season.

According to NNL regulations, only the winners of each of the four conferences qualify for promotion to the NPFL. Inter Lagos’ consistent performance throughout the campaign ensured they met that requirement ahead of schedule.

Second Team to Gain Promotion

Inter Lagos become the second club to confirm promotion this season, joining Doma United FC, who had earlier secured their place in Nigeria’s top division. Two more teams will emerge from the remaining conferences to complete the lineup of promoted sides.

Super 4 Play-Off Awaits

Before the new NPFL season begins, the four promoted clubs will battle for the NNL title in the Super 4 play-off tournament scheduled to take place in Ikenne. The mini-tournament will determine the overall champion of the Nigeria National League.

Rapid Rise Since Esterblishment

Founded in 2023, Inter Lagos have enjoyed a remarkable rise through the ranks of Nigerian football. Playing their home matches at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, the club has built a passionate and growing fanbase that has played a key role in their successful promotion campaign.

Their qualification for the NPFL signals a new era for the club and adds fresh excitement to the league, with Lagos now set to have stronger representation in Nigeria’s top-tier football competition.
