Doma United have wasted little time making their presence felt in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Three matches into their first campaign back in the NPFL, the newly promoted side have collected three wins from three games, scoring five goals and conceding none. Their latest statement came on September 12, when they defeated former champions Enyimba 2–0 to maintain their 100 per cent record.
The result has put Doma United at the top of the NPFL table with nine points, giving the Savannah Tigers an early lead over the chasing pack. More significantly, they remain unbeaten and yet to concede a goal after three rounds.
Ayeni Wants Doma United to Make Their Mark
Head coach Deji Ayeni has made it clear that Doma United are not approaching their return to the top flight merely to participate.
Speaking after the impressive beginning to the campaign, Ayeni said the club’s objective is to make a strong impression in the NPFL. That ambition is already being reflected on the pitch, with the team showing both organisation and efficiency in the opening weeks.
Ayeni was appointed ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, and his influence will be closely watched as the season develops. The immediate results suggest that Doma United have adapted quickly to the demands of top-flight football.
A Defence That Has Set the Tone
While the five goals scored have attracted attention, Doma United’s defensive record may be even more significant.
Three matches. Zero goals conceded.
That gives the newcomers a foundation from which to build. Their latest 2–0 victory over Enyimba saw Sadiq Rilwan and Yusuf Fantami score, with Doma United finding the net in both halves.
For a newly promoted team, defensive stability can be particularly important. Doma United have so far shown that they can win matches without exposing themselves unnecessarily at the back.
Can the Perfect Start Continue?
The biggest question now is whether Doma United can turn an impressive opening three games into sustained form.
The NPFL season is long, and the demands will increase as teams study Doma United more closely. Injuries, squad depth, away fixtures and the pressure of maintaining results will provide a much bigger test than the opening weeks.
For now, however, the numbers are difficult to ignore:
Played: 3
Won: 3
Drawn: 0
Lost: 0
Goals scored: 5
Goals conceded: 0
Points: 9
That is the profile of a team that has made an early statement.
A New NPFL Force?
It may be too early to make definitive conclusions after only three matches, but Doma United have certainly given the rest of the NPFL something to think about.
The newly promoted side are currently sitting at the summit, unbeaten and without conceding. The next phase of the campaign will reveal whether this is simply a spectacular opening or the beginning of a sustained challenge from one of the league’s newest top-flight forces.
For Doma United, the message from the opening three matches is clear: they have arrived in the NPFL ready to compete.
The bigger question is now simple:
How long can the Savannah Tigers stay at the top?
