Nigeria booked their place in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia in their Group C encounter at the Fez Stadium on Saturday night.
The Super Eagles were outstanding, with Ademola Lookman delivering a match-winning performance that earned him the Man of the Match award. Lookman was directly involved in all three goals — providing two assists and scoring one himself — as Nigeria overcame a spirited Tunisian comeback.
The first breakthrough came just before halftime when Lookman sent in a dangerous cross that was nodded home by Victor Osimhen, giving Nigeria the lead heading into the break.
Early in the second half, Lookman’s pinpoint delivery from a set-piece found captain Wilfred Ndidi, who powered a header into the net to double Nigeria’s advantage.
Lookman then capped his influential display with a composed finish in the 67th minute, extending the Super Eagles’ lead to 3–0 before Tunisia responded with two late goals to set up a tense finale.
Despite the late surge from the Carthage Eagles, Nigeria held on to secure all three points, boosting their confidence and confirming their progression to the knockout stages with six points from two matches.
Lookman’s dynamic performance, combining creativity and clinical finishing, was rightly recognised as the standout display of the night, making him the deserved recipient of the Man of the Match award.
The win sets Nigeria up as one of the favourites to go deep in the tournament as the Super Eagles continue their quest for African glory in Morocco 2025.
