The Nigeria Football Federation has officially inaugurated its Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee ahead of the 2026–2030 Executive Committee elections, pledging to deliver one of the most credible electoral processes in its history.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, where NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau charged members of both committees to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, fairness, and without bias toward any candidate.
Commitment to Free and Fair Elections
Speaking on behalf of the committees, Matthew Burka’a (SAN) assured stakeholders that the assignment would be handled with utmost professionalism and seriousness. He emphasized that the committees are fully aware of the expectations from both local and international football bodies, including FIFA and Confederation of African Football.
According to Burka’a, the goal is to conduct a transparent, credible, and widely accepted election that could serve as a benchmark for future football and even national electoral processes.
Composition of the Committees
The Electoral Committee is chaired by Matthew Burka’a and includes members such as Alhaji Babagoni Grema, Alhaji Bature Musa, Ayibaye Peter Great Temedie, Esq, and Hon. (Dr) Akogun Olugbenga Omole, with Arinze Azubuike Anughele, Esq and Abayomi Akin Omoyimi, Esq serving as alternate members.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Appeals Committee comprises Hon. Justice C. J. Aneke, Barr. Benjamin Sati, and Professor Abdulmalik Awwal, with FIFA Emmanuel Dada Obafemi and Ayi Ekpo Ukpayam listed as alternates.
In line with NFF statutes, the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi (MON), will act as secretary to both committees.
Election Date and Venue Confirmed
The NFF also confirmed that elections into its Executive Committee will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Lafia.
Key Stakeholders in Attendance
The event attracted several high-profile figures in Nigerian sports administration, including Philip Shaibu, Director General of the National Institute for Sports, as well as NFF 1st Vice President Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu and Executive Committee members Silas Agara and George Aluo.
With preparations now underway, all eyes will be on the NFF as it aims to deliver a transparent and historic electoral process that strengthens governance in Nigerian football.
